Language Diversity Forum 2026 – Global Challenges, Self-Empowerment and Networking
Barcelona, 17–20 June 2026
The Language Diversity Forum is a space for dialogue and the exchange of knowledge, best practices,
and strategies to promote linguistic diversity, language justice, and the empowerment of speakers of
minoritized and Indigenous languages. It brings together academics, activists, Indigenous experts, and
institutional representatives from across the globe, fostering international collaboration and the creation of
sustainable networks.
Programme Highlights:
17th June – Language Rights and Social Justice
Panels and dialogues on fundamental language rights, civic activism, and challenging colonial
legacies in language policies, featuring Indigenous and Latin American perspectives.
18th June – Activism and Revitalization
Sessions on community engagement, language activism, and good practices for research
partnerships supporting language revitalization worldwide. Topics include applying African
knowledge frameworks to global contexts, and strategies for equitable collaboration between
scholars and communities.
19th June – Multilingual Migrants and Minority Languages in Europe
Roudtables and focus groups on supporting migrant communities’ multilingual capital, regional
language policies, institutional programs, activism, and integration strategies. These sessions give
migrant communities a platform to share their voices and experiences.
20th June – Training Weekend
Workshops for NGOs, community leaders, and young speakers to:
- Share experiences and best practices for self-empowerment and teaching languages.
- Explore digital activism and IT tools to revitalize languages.
- Develop practical guidelines for socio-economic and linguistic sustainability of
communities. - Engage businesses, associations, and institutions in promoting endangered languages.
- Produce educational materials in Indigenous languages.
Across all days, the Forum emphasizes peer learning, dialogue, and exchange, aiming to build lasting
networks, solidarity, and collaborative strategies that continue beyond the event to support global
language diversity and justice.
