WP7 Effective multilingualism policies

Work Package 7: Effective Multilingualism Policies

Lead institution: Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU, Poland)
Supporting institutions: University of Oslo (UiO, Norway); European Language Equality Network (ELEN, Belgium).

Work Package 7 examines how language policies across Europe shape the promotion of multilingualism and linguistic diversity. It looks at how educational, cultural, and political frameworks influence the vitality of minority and endangered languages at local, regional, and national levels.

The team evaluates existing language policy instruments, identifying best practices and challenges in balancing top-down (governmental) and bottom-up (community-led) approaches. WP7 also collects and compares examples of successful multilingual education and participation models from different parts of Europe.

One of the key activities of this work package is the Multilingual Policies Forum, a major European event to be held in Poznań, which brings together policymakers, researchers, and community representatives to discuss new strategies for effective and inclusive language policies.

By connecting academic research with practical policymaking, WP7 contributes to developing more democratic, evidence-based approaches to multilingualism that empower communities and strengthen Europe’s linguistic capital.

WP7 is led by Prof. Tomasz Wicherkiewicz (AMU) and Prof. Haley de Korne (Univ. Oslo), with Dr. Davyth Hicks (ELEN).
