Work Package 4 explores how language can be understood as a form of capital that contributes to the social and economic sustainability of communities. The team studies how local and regional initiatives connect language use with areas such as education, tourism, place branding, and community development.
By engaging with practitioners, policymakers, and researchers across Europe, WP4 maps how linguistic capital is recognised and valued in different contexts. It collects examples of successful projects that integrate language revitalisation with sustainable economic practices — from multilingual tourism initiatives to local entrepreneurship and heritage promotion.
The results will feed into practical guidelines and recommendations showing how minority and minoritised languages can become drivers of local development and cultural resilience.
Work Package 4 leader is Dr. Ibon Manterola with Dr. Jone Goirigolzarri-Garaizar.
