The Consortium

FOSTERLANG brings together a unique pan-European network of universities, research institutes, and NGOs dedicated to the protection and promotion of European minoritised and endangered languages. Led by the University of Warsaw (UW), the consortium combines internationally recognised academic expertise with the practical experience of the European Language Equality Network (ELEN), a large community-based organisation.

Our partnership is built on strong collaboration between academic and non-academic actors, creating shared potential to develop sustainable solutions for linguistic diversity in Europe. FOSTERLANG works to strengthen connections between research institutions and grassroots initiatives, addressing the current divide between academic work and community-driven language revitalisation.

By merging scientific knowledge with the lived experience and expertise of language communities, the consortium fosters innovation across disciplines – including linguistics, education, digital humanities, language technology, and activism. This collaboration supports both top-down and bottom-up approaches to promote linguistic equity, empower minoritised communities, and counter the ongoing diversity crisis in Europe.
